Driving Digital Transformation: Oivan’s Kubernetes Journey with SUSE Rancher Prime

“At Oivan, we see cloud-native modernization as a key driver of national transformation.”

Oivan has had the privilege of building and supporting critical national platforms in Saudi Arabia using a cloud-native foundation powered by SUSE Rancher Prime. This foundation strengthens data resilience, delivers real-time insights, and streamlines operations – aligning closely with Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s ambitious digital transformation goals.

The Challenge: Modernizing National Platforms at Scale

There’s growing demand for digital platforms that can handle massive workloads – from citizen services to economic data systems.

Our client, a government entity, was facing several critical challenges:

  • Legacy infrastructure limiting scalability
  • Strict data sovereignty requirements
  • Zero-downtime expectations for mission-critical services

Traditional virtualization and cloud approaches were not sufficient. A new, unified solution was needed to support hybrid environments, automate deployments, and provide deep operational visibility – without compromising security or performance.

Our Approach: Kubernetes with Rancher Prime at the Core

Oivan implemented a multi-cluster Kubernetes architecture powered by Rancher Prime, provisioning over 50 nodes across cloud datacenters.

This setup enables:

  • Petabyte-scale workload processing
  • Rapid cluster deployment (hours instead of weeks)
  • Compliance with Saudi Arabia’s National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) standards

Longhorn: Revolutionizing Persistent Storage

Data persistence is critical for national platforms. Using Longhorn, Rancher’s distributed block storage system, we enabled:

  • Dynamically scalable storage volumes
  • Replicated backups across geographically distributed sites
  • 99.999% availability, even during maintenance

SUSE Observability: Full Operational Visibility

To manage complexity, we deployed SUSE Observability across all clusters, providing:

  • Unified monitoring of metrics, logs, and traces
  • Real-time visibility into system performance
  • AI-driven anomaly detection

This reduced mean time to resolution (MTTR) by 65%, allowing teams to proactively address issues before impacting users.

Fleet: GitOps-Driven Automation

With Fleet, Rancher’s GitOps tool, we automated deployment workflows across hundreds of microservices, enabling:

  • Consistent and repeatable deployments
  • Zero-downtime rollouts
  • Alignment with DevSecOps best practices
The Impact: A Foundation for Digital Sovereignty

The transformation delivered measurable results:

  • Platforms now process 3x more transactions
  • Infrastructure footprint reduced by 50%
  • Continuous uptime for mission-critical services
  • Faster delivery of new features

Most importantly, this initiative strengthened digital sovereignty, ensuring that data and systems remain secure, resilient, and future-ready within the Kingdom.

At Oivan, our partnership with SUSE goes beyond technology – it’s about delivering trust, innovation, and long-term impact. We are excited to extend this model across more sectors in the region.

If your organization is exploring cloud-native transformation or Kubernetes adoption, we’d be glad to support your journey. Let’s build the future together.
